Child with arms raised
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6

Prayer breaks chains and gives favor that is supernatural. It enables rescue and puts people in the right place at the right time.

Greetings!  You’ll notice that the turnaround from our last (prayer) newsletter is pretty quick.  The reason for this is because I want to turn your attention to trafficking that centers around The World Cup.  As you may know, from your love of soccer or football, the FIFA World Cup 2014 officially opened on June 12, 2014.  The World Cup is described as the pinnacle of soccer – the end all of football games, and takes place every four years.

3.7 Million People Expected To Attend

Published on June 10, 2014, 10 Things Non-Soccer Fans Need To Know About The World Cup will give you interesting insight into the games.  Over 200 national soccer teams have boiled down to 32 teams that will compete in cities across Brazil for the next month.  And like the Olympics and the U.S. Super Bowl, the World Cup is a sporting event that boasts many visitors.  According to this article in Forbes May 2014, they’re expecting about 3.7 million people.

Shop keepers and restaurants know this and plan to capitalize – but pimps are aware of this as well.  The World Cup is a prime place for trafficking.  People are traveling from all over the world to watch the games – you can believe traffickers are traveling there too.  In addition there is already a thriving world of sex trafficking operating in South America.

12 Arenas in 12 Cities

One thing that makes this event and nation more vulnerable to trafficking is the amazing amount of space between event sites. Watch this 2-minute video from Google Earth to give you an idea of just how large and expansive this event is.  Games are played at multiple arenas throughout the country, at times spanning some 2,600 miles between events.  Unlike the Olympics, tourists are not bound to one main area – there are multiple areas to watch games, spend money, and enjoy all the country has to offer. Traffickers will make sure no opportunity is wasted.

Exodus Cry, an anti-trafficking organization out of the International House of Prayer, has been on the ground in Brazil for several years – preparing for the World Cup and fighting trafficking on the ground. They tell us that, “Statistics indicate that 250,000 to 400,000 children are trafficked in Brazil every day. Young girls, often less than 13 years of age, are sold to an average of ten men a night for as little as 10 reis each ($4.50 USD).” This is not ok.  This is not acceptable.  For the month of June and into July, we need to join together and pray for the nation of Brazil and for the World Cup.  Let this be a nation known for a righteous turnaround.

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16b NLT

But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”  Luke 18:27 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • Lift up the arena cities.  Pray for the residents of these cities, their law enforcement, and for righteousness to rule over: Manaus,  Fortaleza,  Natal,  Recife, Salvador,  Brasilia, Cuiaba, Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Curitiba and Porto Alegre
  • Pray protection over vulnerable girls who could be trafficked.
  • Pray for integrity and strength for law enforcement, that they would help rescue victims.
  • Pray that the buyers will have an encounter with God and will repent and turn toward Him.
  • Pray that the pimps will be caught, imprisoned, and also have an encounter with God.
  • Pray for rescue for trafficking victims.  Declare freedom from physical, mental, and emotional bondage.  Psalm 50:15
  • Pray for the plans of the enemy to be thwarted.
  • Pray for the World Cup competitors.  Pray for a righteous mindset.  Many teams are actually prohibited by their coaches from having sex until the competition is over.  This can lead to a massive ‘partying’ mentality at the end of the games.  Declare a mindset of righteousness and respect over the players.
  • Proclaim the true life, purpose and destiny of women in Brazil.  Every person is valuable, and has been bought and paid for – by JESUS.  May Brazil, and all who visit the land, know the grace, love and salvation of Jesus Christ!
