Anti-human Trafficking
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6
Prayer breaks chains and gives favor that is supernatural. It enables rescue and puts people in the right place at the right time.
Greetings! The past month has been quite busy. The anti-trafficking section of the Aglow website has undergone some changes, which now include an explanation of our calling and action points, an archive for present and past newsletters, and a resource page! Take some time to look around, and if there is something that you would like to see on the website that you would find helpful, let me know. This month our newsletter will be a little different. I’d like to talk to you about the pressing problem of trafficking in India, and a resource that you can view to help spread awareness of this issue.
The Dalit People
Have you ever heard of the Dalit people in India? Also known as the “Untouchables”, they are not a small group by any means. There are about 300 million Dalit – that’s roughly the size of the United States population. Yet an estimated 90% of all trafficked people in India, either bonded labor or sex trafficking, are Dalit people. According to an article in Christianity Today India in May 2011, “India has emerged as one of the biggest source, route and destination countries for victims of trafficking. According to government figures, 60,000 children go missing annually in India and majority of them fall prey to trafficking.”
60,000 children. We must do something.
Aglow's current anti-trafficking action steps include: prayer, partnering locally in your community, and raising awareness on trafficking. One way we are helping raise awareness is by partnering with the film NOT TODAY. NOT TODAY is a faith-based film that brings awareness of the Dalit people and their vulnerability to trafficking in India. You can view the official trailer here. Jane Hansen Hoyt was deeply touched when she saw the film with her husband at a San Diego Christian film festival. We want to join NOT TODAY in spreading awareness of the issue of trafficking of the Dalit people.
Not Today
The film NOT TODAY will be released at select theatres in the U.S. April 12 - 14. I highly encourage you to take a group of friends or people from your church and go and see this film. You will be pleased to know that this film does not have the graphic content or violence of other fictional trafficking films. NOT TODAY does a wonderful job presenting a responsible and factual screenplay. Their action steps at the end of the film are excellent and include partnering with Aglow.
Interview with Brent Martz and Cody Longo
NOT TODAY has won seven awards in the past two years, including “Best Justice Film” at the 2013 Justice Film Festival. I had the privilege of interviewing the film’s producer, Brent Martz, and leading actor Cody Longo, who plays Caden Welles, a 20-year old who decides to travel to India with his friends, not knowing this trip will forever change his life.
Allow me to share, and sometimes paraphrase, Brent and Cody’s heart regarding NOT TODAY and the Dalit people of India:
1. Brent - What made you decide to produce an anti-trafficking film about/in India? What was your first step in this process?
Since 2002 our church has been building schools for the Dalit. Our original pastor was introduced to India and the Dalits in 2002. We went back in 2007 to check on the progress of the 20 schools we were building. We were in Hyderabad, India, which is also the headquarters of Operation Mobilization in India and the headquarters for the Dalit Freedom Network. We thought we knew what we were walking into, but we were surprised at the impact that the first schools we built had on those people. There was one village called Pipe Village. Families live in huge concrete sewer pipes that had been given to some workers of the pipe factory. And looking at this pipe city… someone told me, these kids will never live in a pipe when they grow up because they are going to the school your church built.
We are going to build 200 schools in this area. We’ve built 42 schools so far, and have the money raised for 70. Our ultimate goal is to build 1,000 schools.
2. Can you tell me more about trafficking in India? What grabbed your heart?
Brent: 90% of people trafficked in India are Dalits. Dalits are considered untouchable, except when it comes to bonded labor and sex trafficking. We talked to brothel owners to do research for the film. I have 3 children myself – and I had children offered to me, for pennies.
3. If you could say one or two things to Aglow about the Dalit people, what would you want them to know?
Cody: Go to India. See this culture for yourself. The people I got to talk to and touch and be around, these kids are so– they’re so adorable, we would bring them chalkboards – they have nothing, and they don’t even know they have nothing. We’re doing this movie for them. The culture is so incredible and so welcoming – we are so blessed over here in America. Some of us take advantage of that, and I did too – until this film. Let’s stop living for just for ourselves. Love is living for others.
Brent: For 3,000 years the Dalit people have been told they’re worse than dogs, worse than cockroaches. But when you tell them they are created in the image of God, that Jesus came to die for THEM, even though it is generationally engrained in them that they’re worth nothing, this truth is revolutionary. I’ve seen freedom that only Jesus can bring. If we truly believe in the teachings of Jesus, standing in the gap of the poor, following Jesus’ example… God invited our church into one of the greatest movements of God in this century. I wouldn’t trade that for the world. I’m thankful for brothers and sisters in India who are daily living out their faith. The world needs to know their story.
4. Brent, What do you, as the film’s Producer, hope people will walk away with after watching this film?
I hope that we not only raise awareness, but motivate action. Our success would be if people are motivated to action – whether that’s in India or in trafficking around the world. God is going to put a different call on everyone’s heart when they watch NOT TODAY. I had no idea about Dalits. I had no idea about human trafficking, I just thought, I have to do something. So be involved – via social media, fund a school, volunteer with a global partner. That is success for us – being committed to actions.
5. Cody - What do you hope people will walk away with after watching this film?
I hope people get inspired. To ask, what can I do, now, to get involved? It’s going to take that one generation who says yes, to make that change. Wherever your passion is, that’s the most important thing.
6. How can Aglow pray for you? For the movie premiere? For the Dalits?
Cody: I would just hope that they would pray for a change. Pray for peace and awareness. And for people to become active and to make a change.
Brent: Pray that the Dalit people would find freedom through Jesus. Pray for spiritual freedom. As schools get built, pray that the Dalit would find literal freedom, freedom from persecution, from all the atrocities they have to put up with every day just for how they were born. For freedom in society. For their life to be lived out.
Also pray for the film. Opening weekend is so huge. We don’t have funds but we do have the Holy Spirit. Pray that God would do abundantly more (Eph. 3:20).
April 12th is opening weekend, pray that the movie would have an unprecedented response and that it would open in 30, 40 cities and that God would use this film as a conversation starter or conversation continuator. That it would wake up the church in America to live outside ourselves, for others. I think the church in America is looking for something to give themselves to, that is not for themselves, and this is it. Your ticket in, is their ticket out.
This Month Pray For The Dalit People:
- Pray for revelation to come to the Dalit people – that they would know they are beloved, precious, and loved by God!
- Pray for their physical and spiritual freedom.
- Pray for their Salvation - that they would walk in the abundant life Jesus came to give.
- Pray for the missing 60,000 children - that they would find freedom and protection!
- Proclaim Matthew 19:26 - With God all things are possible.
- Pray for the Not Today showings this weekend – Pray that eyes would be opened and hearts stirred into action.

One of the answers to that question is: You can make a difference with your purchasing power.
We know today that there are more than 29 million slaves worldwide – and over 24 million are trapped in some form of labor slavery. Because your money dictates the demand for products, your money can keep an operation flourishing or send it floundering. With people waking up to this reality, larger corporations are listening to their consumers, and making necessary changes to become more responsible. Of course these changes don’t all happen overnight. But progress, not perfection, is what we’re looking for.
Free2Work
Not For Sale has developed a website called Free2Work which rates popular clothing, electronics, chocolate, toys, shoes and more according to their labor practices. While its rating system does not encompass all brands, it is a helpful starting place when evaluating your shopping choices. Take a minute to view the site here and see where some of your favorite brands rank. Start by choosing an industry under the orange Industry tab. You may choose to start your search with "Apparel" - select and press view to get the results.
You might be surprised to see how some of your favorite companies are joining in the fight to end slavery and make responsible and effective changes in their practice. You might also be surprised or disappointed to see some of your favorite brands taking an opposite approach. Be sure to click on the brand name, and see what the individual ratings are in Policies, Transparency, Monitoring, and Workers Rights – not just the Overall score. Check it out and see for yourself.
Once I know the rating, what do I do?
Once you know the rating on a favorite or common brand, you have several different choices:
If you are pleased with the result:
Continue to buy the brand, and spread the news! I’m happy to know that Hanes is rated an “A-“. I know that I can buy that brand while shopping and feel I am making a responsible choice. Both Adidas and Reebok, while earning a “C” in workers’ rights, maintain an overall score of “B”. When shopping for my nephew who always likes tennis shoes, this Christmas I know I can feel better buying him shoes from Adidas or Reebok than other brands.
If you are not thrilled with the result:
What do you do when your favorite brand is rated, well, a lot lower than you were wanting? H & M is rated at “B+” – this is a favorite store of mine. But in the category of workers’ rights, it scores a “D”. Here’s where it can get tough. You need to act according to your convictions.
Allow me to give you some suggestions for how to deal with this:
First, e-mail or call them to voice your concern over their labor practices. Second, determine if there is another similar brand you can switch to. Be practical. Are there brands that look/taste/work the same as the one you prefer? If so, give them a try. See if they work. If they meet your needs– great! If they don’t work, you will need to make a choice – do you want to give up that brand entirely? Taper off use of that brand? Or continue using?
This choice can be really overwhelming. I prefer a grace approach. We are looking for progress in labor policies, not perfection. For me, this situation is not a black and white situation, and there is no company with perfect labor policies. What I’m looking for is a company that is making strides toward a changing labor force where they value all their employees, and treat them with emotional and financial dignity. I once heard the speaker of an anti-trafficking organization tell how it took him 6 months to give up Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, because no matter how hard he wanted to give up unethical chocolate brands, there was no other brand that tasted the same. Changing our spending is all about lifestyle choices. Don’t make you hate yourself, or make your family hate you, for making drastic changes that don’t meet your family’s needs. Take this journey one step at a time. Sure, you might give up that cleaning solution a few months from now, but let your choices work out in a practical way, so that responsible spending can truly be a lifestyle, not a fad.
If the result is really bad:
After all the grace I just gave you, here’s where it’s really hard – sometimes you just have to cut the cord, and buy a new brand. But don’t just say “no” and walk away. When you break up with this company, let them know – “It’s not me, it’s you.” Take a second to e-mail or call the company and let them know why you aren’t purchasing their brand anymore. It can be tough, but follow your convictions. If the Holy Spirit is leading you, FOLLOW. Your choices are making a positive difference. And you never know, maybe the company will e-mail you back with updated information that changes your choice. It has happened before.
DON’T host a bonfire:
Sometimes in light of the news we receive regarding brands, we think the solution is to throw away all of our ‘tainted’ goods. I would encourage you NOT to do that. Before you toss your Kindle away, think about your purchasing power: It’s all about demand. If you already own your goods, keep them. Don’t waste someone’s labor. Throwing them out and buying another is not only a waste of money, it’s creating more demand.
Shop second hand:
Shopping at used clothing stores and even brand name used clothing stores are ways to keep brand names with low scores, and not highly affect the demand. Since the clothes have already been made and sold, the companies are not receiving compensation for whatever you buy here. So if vintage is you or your friend’s thing, consider this your jackpot!
PRAY:
When I buy new clothes I am trying to start a habit of praying over them. This is not a weird religious thing – this is a practical thing. Take just a minute and look at the tag on the clothes, or packing on the electronics, etc. Note the country it was produced in, and take a second to pray for the salvation, blessing, and freedom of everyone that was involved in the making of this product.
It’s so easy to think that everything is factory made. But even in factories, this product was touched by human hands. And that human has worth, value, and is ultimately our brother or sister. What a good habit for us all to get into.

Reminder Summer Project: Send an Encouraging Card!
Greetings! I want to remind you of our project for Rescue Freedom. Send your cards at the end of this month, and we’ll give them to Rescue Freedom to encourage boys and girls in India and Thailand!
Get Involved – Send An Encouraging Card
You have an opportunity to send a card or letter to Aglow International Headquarters following the steps below:
- Pick a home.
The cards will go to India (where there are about 300 kids) or Thailand (where there are 14 kids). Each safe house houses children who have been rescued from brothels in that nation. Please note on the card or envelope who you are sending your card to:- Safe House 1: India, young girls (ages 5 – 12)
- Safe House 2: India, older girls (ages 13 – 18)
- Safe House 3: India, Program Graduates (Ages 18+)
- Safe House 4: India, boys (ages 5 – 18)
- Safe House 5: Thailand girls (ages 5 – 18)
- Safe House 6: Thailand boys (ages 5 – 18)
- Group 7: Encouragement note to house mom/house dad/leadership
- Write an encouraging card or letter. Write an encouraging card or letter. You and/or your group may send multiple cards/letters, as long as you specify which house each card/letter goes to. Cards from children and grandchildren are also allowed and encouraged. Here are some general guidelines.
You may:
- Write an encouraging note.
- Write a scripture.
- Tell them you’re praying for them.
- Include a picture of you or your Aglow group, so they can see who their new praying friend is, across the world!
- Decorate with stickers or stamps.
- Or you may simply write “I’m praying for you!” and sign your name/State/Country.
What to pray for/write in prayer?
- Let them know you’re praying for their education, which is a true hope and lifeline for them.
- Encourage them in their potential in Christ, ability to pursue their dreams, their destiny, vision for their life, and that God will raise them up as leaders.
- Encourage them in their future; that God has good things in store for them, community, love, and ability to pursue their dreams.
Please do not:
- DO NOT address their trauma. Prayers proclaiming freedom from bondage, etc. should be prayed, but not written in these cards or letters. Speak to their future, rather than their past.
- DO NOT address family. As many as 1/3 of these children are orphans, and to say you are praying for their family is not something that will apply to everyone.
- Send the card, or card(s) by August 30, 2016.
Send your cards and letters in, let's flood the children with greetings! Your cards/letters must be sent to Aglow International by August 30th. They will be given to the children, on site, by Rescue: Freedom in September.

Greetings! Can you believe we are almost at the end of summer? I want to make sure you are equipped with tools that are helpful in stopping human trafficking in your community. So this month I’m bringing your attention to the 2018 TIP Report and helpful internet tips from Let’s Talk Teens.
Predators abound on social media. Read more for helpful tools to set your family up for success in dealing with social media.
2018 TIP Report
We have been sharing the annual TIP (Trafficking in Persons) Report for years and here it is for 2018. This report, released by the U.S. State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, grades countries around the world on a tier system, according to their practices regarding human trafficking.
How Does Your Country Rank? To see where your nation ranks, you can find a 1-2 page summary of how trafficking is being combatted in your nation, as well as read an explanation for its tier standing, by scrolling down the page to “Country Narratives” and browsing the section listing nations alphabetically.

Lets Talk Teens: Keeping Kids Safe in a World of Online Predators
I want to introduce www.LetsTalkTeens.com to you as a resource if you have teenage kids in your life. Here you'll find many helpful articles and short reads that help equip parents and others to be an effective voice in kids lives, in a world with constant voices vying for their attention.
Predators abound on social media. The average age of exposure to pornography is 9-11 years old, with some studies saying between age 6 – 8 years old.
Therefore, I want to draw your attention to Social Media Monitoring Tools. And if you’re like me, you’ll think – I can’t invade their privacy! But as Let’s Talk Teens says, “This is not their diary. It's called social media because they're putting it (this information) out into the world." So in the name, not of spying, but of protecting your children from online predators, here are some tools to check out.
Social Media Monitoring Tools for Teens, Tweens and Children
- Mspy - Trusted monitoring tool that is current on Snapchat, Tinder and Messaging Apps
- Qustodio - Track messages, pics sent and received, helpful for parents of middle schoolers
- TeenSafe - Monitoring of socials, texts, and web history
- Mobile Spy
- Pocket Guardian - Good for Snapchat and Ghost Apps
- Mobicip - Safe browser, especially good for small children
- For a short 3-minute video explanation of more that these apps do, go here.
Webinar for Parents
Let's Talk Teens founder, Kacee Bree Jensen says:
We are the first generation to parent in the social media and digital world, anyone else feel overwhelmed sometimes? Too much screen time is just the start of our challenges. There are 75,000 sexual predators online (according to the FBI) using gaming and DM's to get to our kids. Middle schoolers and high schoolers are now being charged with child pornography for sending a "nudy." Suicide and depression rates have gone up 200% in girls age 10-15 ever since social media has become our focus.
I (Jessica) rarely, rarely ever feature a sellable product for another organization. I’m really not here to sell you things. However, I feel so led to equip parents with the tools to reach their kids in a social media world, that I will feature this one Web Workshop, this one time. Go here for a 1-hour parent video workshop, resources, action steps for your family, and “step by step how-to’s for setting up safety.”
You can use this code for 50% off: CODE: LTT50
The total workshop is then $24.00
I am not receiving anything for this. I just think this information is invaluable. So, forward to parents at will.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for teens, tweens, and children in your life. Kids WANT to do well. The enemy doesn’t fight fair. Lift up intentional prayer this month for the children you know.
- Pray for wisdom and discernment for teens in your life, neighborhood and city.

Isaiah 58:6

I don’t know how you feel about it, but sometimes the facts and figures regarding human trafficking can be overwhelming. Aglow Prayer Director, Nancy McDaniel says, When our concern and compassion turns to anxiety, stress or feeling completely overwhelmed, it’s time to intentionally step into the complete peace and rest of God’s Presence. We battle this stuff from His Presence, from His rest, from victory and from the Light of God.
Over 30 million people around the world are trapped in some form of slavery. This fact can be overwhelming. But as we work to fight slavery through praying for Rescue Freedom, raising awareness, and getting involved in and praying for our communities, it is imperative that we approach this work from that place of truth, God's rest, and victory.
So, how do we move on in practical actions?
Micah 6:8 tells us what we are to do:
O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Isaiah 1:17 adds:
Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.
2014 Trafficking In Persons Report
Here is a useful resource for this month– the 2014 Trafficking In Persons Report. The 2014 TIP report was released earlier this summer and can be found here.
This report, released by the U.S. State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, grades countries around the world on a tier system, according to their practices regarding human trafficking. To see an overview of the current standings of each nation, see page 57 & 58 of the link here.
To view your own country, and read a 1-2 page summary of how trafficking is being combatted in your nation, as well as an explanation for its tier standing, click on “Country Narratives” and the first letter of your Nation under the 2014 TIP Report main page here.
This report gives a glimpse into trafficking in different areas of the world. I highly suggest looking through the “Introductory Material (PDF)” as well as picking a few nations to read about trafficking there. Has God laid a nation on your heart to pray for? Have you traveled, or want to travel, to anywhere specific? Take a minute to read over those nations in this report, and once you’re done reading, take a minute to pray for that nation.
As you look over the 2014 Trafficking In Persons report, focus your mind on prayer. What can you do with this information? Who can you tell, that might be surprised to know that trafficking takes place in a certain area? Personally, I was shocked to find out several years ago that my family vacation spot was/is a prime area for sex trafficking. Now when I travel there, I pray for the girls, and ask God for opportunities to encourage them.
Pray For Practical Ideas
I also want to encourage you to pray for creative ideas to get involved in your community. Adorned in Grace is a bridal shop in Portland, OR – USA that sells new and gently used wedding gowns with proceeds going to promote awareness and prevention of sex trafficking as well as restoration for trafficking victims.
Is God laying an idea on your heart?
This month, pray:
- • God, give me your heart to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You.
- • I want justice for my community. How have you equipped me to help the oppressed around me?
- • God, open my eyes – are there widows or orphans near me that I can help? How can I practically show them your love?
- • What are you asking me to do with the talents and resources you’ve placed in my hand? How can I get involved in a practical way? How can my Aglow group get involved in a practical way?
- • Thank you God for never leaving us. Thank you for using me to be your hands and feet in my community.
Bless you as you press in to ask God how He wants to use you and your group to fight trafficking in your community, and ultimately around the world.

How are you this month? I hope you are doing well and that your summer has been good. This month we’re continuing our series of “Know – Pray – Act” by focusing on treatment and aftercare. But first – you need to know that the 2015 Trafficking in Persons Report has been released. You can view the report here.

As you look over the 2015 Trafficking In Persons report, focus your mind on prayer. What can you do with this information? Who can you tell, that might be surprised to know that trafficking takes place in a country they’ve visited – or in their own country?
Know – Pray – Act: Aftercare
Know
Aftercare is an important part of every trafficked victim’s recovery. It’s easy to think that the journey is easier after being rescued from labor or sex trafficking. However, rescue is only the first step in rebuilding a life. In certain parts of the world up to 80% of victims are re-trafficked because of factors like shame, lack of education, and financial hardship. But through prayer divine intervention can help keep former victims free.
Pray
- God, help trafficked victims in my community who have been rescued. Strengthen them with your mighty power and love.
- God, bring healing and wholeness to former victims. Heal them from PTSD. Strengthen them and deliver them from fear and the lies of the enemy. Place strong believers in their life who will show them Your love.
- Use me, God. I want to help those trafficked in my community the way You have authorized me. Show me safe houses to partner with in any way that You would use me.
- Direct me, Jesus. If there are no safe houses near me, show me how can I be involved in treatment and aftercare. Or would you have me become involved in a homeless shelter or other place of need?
- God bless those that Rescue Freedom works with. Let your presence be felt in their homes. Pour out your freedom, mercy and bondage breaking anointing on all they come in contact with.
- God bless Rescue Freedom as they seek out permanent land for their safe houses. Give them favor as You provide for their needs.
Act
Here are some suggestions for becoming involved in treatment and aftercare in your community:
- Start by looking up aftercare organizations in your area. There are many safe houses that are being developed in suburban areas, making their presence known in their communities while keeping their specific location guarded. Look up volunteer opportunities within these organizations.
- Love is the key for both victims and traffickers. While praying about trafficking in your community, pray for the whole healing of the trafficked, remember the trafficker who also needs help, healing and wholeness. Pray that they are brought from darkness into light.
- In your community or church, be a pillar of support and of love. If a teen from your church or community has returned after involvement with trafficking, be committed to being a loving, nonjudgmental adult in that community. People who have not been trafficked don’t understand the experiences or variables of one who has been trafficked. Words can be overrated. Love in action is not.
- If you receive the opportunity to volunteer as a driver, mentor, or in other ways in a safe house, relinquish conditions or expectations of the victims with whom you work, .i.e., making a demand that they attend church in order to receive help or (essentially) love. If you get to work with trafficked victims, your most powerful witness will be loving them where they’re at, as they are.
- Lastly, here is a project for the whole family! Prepare “Care Packages” for safe houses. These packages can contain travel size soap, toothpaste, other toiletries, feminine products, a snack, and a card. These care packages, packed in gallon-size zip lock baggies, can be given to local safe houses, battered woman shelters, or homeless shelters.

Praying for India
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6
Prayer breaks chains and gives favor that is supernatural. It enables rescue and puts people in the right place at the right time.
Since the 1960’s, Operation Mobilization has been working in over 100 nations across the globe. Operation Mobilization is an interdenominational organization that highly values the local church, from which members are sent out from and supported. OM in India is doing incredible works. This month we would like to focus our prayers on Operation Mobilization – Bangalore and Hyderabad, India.
Jeevaline Kumar is the cousin of an Aglow National President in Asia and works closely with Operation Mobilization – overseeing the work in Bangalore and leading the anti-trafficking unit in Hyderabad.
Jeeva gives this report:
Our Bangalore Unit is involved in equipping the vulnerable women who are most likely to be trafficked because of their poor economic condition, with life skills so that they cannot be lured by traffickers. Do pray for the training and awareness programs that they undergo at Tarika Women's Center. Also there is a rehabilitation center for those rescued from trafficking and those fleeing life threatening situations. Praise God for the 600 plus women who have already graduated and secured good jobs. (To see a 5 minute testimony of recent graduate, Roopa Raju , click here.)
In Hyderabad, we are working actively to abolish the Jogini system (Devadasi) [which is a form of ritualized temple prostitution]. For at least 2,000 years, young Hindu girls and women have been dedicated to the Hindu goddess Yellamma as part of the ancient Devadasi practice (Devadasi means ‘female servant of God'). There are around 100,000 Joginis in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Although this system was declared illegal in India as late as 1988, it is still in existence today. We have been able to abolish new dedications in many villages. Pray for the awareness programs conducted regularly by ex-Joginis. We are forming a network of people (police, lawyers, other NGOs) who can help us effectively abolish this system. We are linking Joginis with Government Programs. Pray for the children of the Joginis who are most vulnerable to being dedicated. We have a shelter for such children and they are presently studying in OM's Good Shepherd School, Secunderabad.
The Scandal of Dalit (outcastes) trafficking and slavery in India is huge. It is an organized crime. We believe that prayer is a powerful weapon to fight the forces of darkness and we would very much appreciate your prayers as we have responded to God's call to action to challenge this gross injustice and human rights abuse.
What an amazing work is being done for people who have been, or are vulnerable to being trafficked in India. Let’s pray in agreement for the purposes of God to be established in Bangalore and Hyderabad:
Dalit
- Pray for Jeeva and the Operation Mobilization workers as they minister to the Dalit people and speak of their love and value in Jesus!
- Pray for Operation Mobilization as they take action to challenge injustice and abuse against the Dalit.
Bangalore
- Pray for the anti-trafficking training and awareness programs and program administrators at Tarika Women's Center.
- Pray for the rehabilitation center for those rescued from trafficking and those fleeing life threatening situations. Proclaim the hope, strength and promises of God over the precious people there. Pray for provision for the center – food, supplies, finances, counselors, workers, and volunteers.
Hyderabad
- Praise God for the abolishment of the ancient dedication practice in many villages!
- Pray for the awareness programs conducted regularly by ex-Joginis. Pray for strength and wisdom for the program administrators, and understanding and reception by the public and those at risk.
- Pray especially for the children of the Joginis who are most vulnerable to being dedicated. There is a new destiny and a new beginning here! Proclaim heavenly destiny!
Joginis
Jeeva also listed specific problems that children of Joginis can face, so we can pray over them. Because this dedication is a form of ritualized temple prostitution, the prayer needs are great. These problems are as follows. Let’s lift these up as opportunities for God to show who He is in their lives:
- Low self-esteem due to continuous exploitation.
- Often subjected to physical violence by their clients and by family members.
- Prone of health hazards due to the system.
- Due to economic vulnerability, women in the Jogini System and their female children are more vulnerable to human trafficking.
- Children of women in the Jogini system are denied identity and education, making them vulnerable to exploitation.
Thank you for coming alongside Jeeva and Operation Mobilization – Bangalore and Hyderabad in prayer. What a blessing to be able to lift them up as they walk out the amazing call God has on them to prevent trafficking and restore those who have been trafficked. By joining in prayer, we are helping see people restored to a radiant place of relationship with God and others, seeing the tyranny of oppression broken, and seeing freedom and empowerment!

Greetings!
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
I pray you are reminded of who God is, and how powerful He is on your behalf, this Christmas season.
This month’s newsletter is a little different as I want to let you know about a special day in January and how you can get involved. This day, and this entire month, is a heightened time of human trafficking awareness. I encourage you to keep your eyes peeled for ways to encourage, ways to get involved, and way to bring awareness!
National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – Sunday, January 11, 2015
In 2007, the U.S. Senate designated January 11th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness of sex slavery, labor slavery, and other types of trafficking – worldwide. It is a day to bring global awareness of people who need freedom and rescue. I would like to encourage you to get involved in raising awareness by starting something in your community. Getting involved can be as elaborate as planning an all-day community event to simply sitting with a few friends who are interested and will allow you to show them a 3 minute video testimony.
Here are a few simple resources and ideas to help you get started:
Get Involved in a hands-on Way:
Send a card to a trafficking survivor in care of Rescue Freedom. Our current card project has been extended through January 15th. Spread the word and encourage friends and family to send an encouraging card to a boy or girl in Central Asia. Find more details here.
For those who like to run:
There are many “fun runs” which support the fight against human trafficking. You can run for human trafficking survivors! Claudia Stokes, President of Southeast Texas Aglow and her husband have run a race benefiting human trafficking survivors for two years in a row. Claudia joined 1,200 individuals to run in Katy, TX. She placed 1st in her age group last year, and 2nd again this year. As Claudia points out, “Events like this one inform, educates and brings awareness of this critical issue to the church and the whole community.”
For those who like to walk:
Would you walk a 5K fun run, but can’t find one to walk in? Follow the footsteps of Darlene Jenks, Area President for Central Arizona Aglow, and host an anti-trafficking prayer walk! Make it a community awareness and prayer event, or you can even start a weekly prayer walk. (If your New Year resolution is to get healthier… what a way to do it!)
To see where you nation ranks, see the TIP Report:
To view your own country, and read a 1-2 page summary of how trafficking is being combatted in your nation, as well as an explanation for its tier standing, click on “Country Narratives” and the first letter of your Nation under the 2014 TIP Report main page here.
To see where your U.S. state ranks:
Check out Shared Hope International’s “Report Card.”
For those on Facebook:
Share the Aglow anti-trafficking statistics video. It’s less than 2 minutes long, and gives a quick look at global trafficking.
For a look at trafficking in America:
“Please someone come get us.” Watch this 3 minute video from the A 21 Campaign which tells a powerful story, illustrating the difficulty and danger of escaping a pimp.
For a look at trafficking through GANGS in America:
Watch this 2.5 minute video trailer from Shared Hope International: Chosen: The True Story of America’s Trafficked Teens.
If you need some encouragement…
“Where are they now? After a rescue operation.”
Watch this 1.5 minute video from the International Justice Mission.
For your friend who likes to dance:
Share this video with them and encourage them to participate in Dancemeber this December.
For those who like movies:
Some movies I would recommend are the Nefarious documentary and the fictional movie “Not Today”. Nefarious is a documentary, and can be subtitled in 20+ different languages. It gives insight into trafficking in many regions of the world.
“Not Today” is a story format, rather than a documentary, and looks at trafficking in India. Trace of Innocents starring Mira Sorvino and the Chosen documentary from Shared Hope are also powerful movies. These act as a great tool to bring awareness, and can act as a springboard for prayer, discussion, and ways to get more involved.
For your friend who isn’t interested at all:
Ask them to put the U.S. National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline number into their cell phones: 888-373-7888. Why? So in case they ever see anything suspicious, they can call the hotline or give the hotline number to anyone who might need it.
Crisis Numbers outside the U.S.
As a reminder: Always put your own safety first. Gather information discreetly. Never confront suspicious persons.
Pray! Pray! Pray!
A care and concern for those trapped in modern day slavery is a concern that crosses all sorts of barriers. Pray that people’s hearts will be softened and opened to the reality of what is going on, and continue to pray for creative ways that you can get involved in a hands-on way. Thank you for continuing to pray for trafficking victims and for Rescue Freedom International as they continue to rescue, restore, and empower those caught in slavery.
As we’re in the midst of cold winter months, please continue to pray for trafficking victims:
- Pray that victims would know the peace and goodwill of Christ.
- Pray for the basic needs of trafficking victims to be met.
- Pray for basic needs, such as food, shelter, and blankets, to be met for homeless/run-aways. During the cold winter months, survival sex (exchanging sex for basic needs) is more frequent.
- At this time of year when many are lonely, there are a higher number of people seeking sex for sale. Pray for the buyers, that they would find peace and love in Christ.
- And finally, pray for those conducting rescues and raids on behalf of trafficking victims. Pray for divine favor and protection.

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – Thursday, January 11, 2018
In 2007, the U.S. Senate designated January 11th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness of sex slavery, labor slavery, and other types of trafficking – worldwide. It is a day to bring global awareness of people who need freedom and rescue. I would like to encourage you to get involved in raising awareness by starting something in your community. Pray about what God would have you do and how you can get involved in 2018.
There are many opportunities for you to get involved, including hosting an anti-trafficking seminar in your community and showing the DVD TRAFFICK to your Lighthouse, neighbors or community.
Looking for ways to get involved?
- Feeling antsy? Run a 5k that raises awareness about human trafficking. Gather with a friend or two to prayer walk your local schools, malls, and business parks. Download the AHT Brochure for ideas on how to pray.
- Feeling ambitious? Set up your own 5k and use the platform to share awareness about human trafficking in your community, state or nation.
- Feeling like Betty Crocker? Bake cookies. No really! Take a batch to your local rescue mission or shelter. The homeless population is so vulnerable to sex trafficking. A cookie is a simple and much appreciated gift. Matthew 10:42
- Feeling sentimental? How about writing an encouraging card to a trafficked victim? Send a card (not a Christmas card) to us at: Aglow Int’l, Attn: Anti-Trafficking, PO Box 1749, Edmonds WA 98026
- Wondering about your community? Check out your Shared Hope Int’l State Report Card, and share with your neighbors. Celebrate your good points, and brainstorm how to work on the low points.
- Wondering about your nation? See the 2017 TIP report here. Celebrate your good points, and brainstorm how to work on the low points.
Do you need MORE RESOURCES?
If you’re looking for resources for yourself or others to fight human trafficking, please check out the TRAFFICK DVD and EXXXit book by John Hammer, available online at the Aglow Store. These are great resources and we do all we can to keep the costs low so these can be available to you and those you know, to help educate and spread awareness of human trafficking.
Pray In December
As we’re in the midst of cold winter months, let’s pray specifically for trafficked victims:
- Pray that victims would know the peace and goodwill of Christ.
- Pray for the basic needs of trafficking victims to be met.
- Pray for basic needs, such as food, shelter, and blankets, to be met for homeless/run-aways. During the cold winter months, survival sex (exchanging sex for basic needs) is more frequent.

- Continue to pray for Rescue Freedom International as they continue to rescue, restore, and empower those caught in slavery. This month, let’s focus on prayer for the health of the women and children in recovery – spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 NLT

How are you doing this Christmas? I have friends and family with many different thoughts on the season...
There are the Black Friday shopping planners.
There are the Christmas Cookie makers and diet sabotagers.
There are busy moms planning parties.
Overwhelmed students finishing finals.
And so many more, with so many activities!
Regardless of what category you fit into, or create, there always seems to be a Charlie Brown moment in the season. You know – Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!
In the midst of our Christmas giving, cooking, parties, shopping, and more, I was to share what’s been a great reminder for me this season.
A reminder of WHO Jesus is:
Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor.
He has all the answers. He has hope. He has love. He has wisdom. HE knows what to do.
Jesus is our Mighty God.
The One and Only fit to bear this title, He is like NO other. He is strong. He is mighty! His strength is enough.
Jesus is the Everlasting Father.
Everlasting. Not leaving. Won’t leave you or forsake you. You may feel alone, but He won’t leave you alone. Loving. Good Dad. Better than any earthly father, mother, or caregiver.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
Ahh, peace. The one who brings silence to your night. The one who can bring calm, even in the midst of bright lights. The one who can bring joy in chaos, and hope in a family fight. He is our peace, regardless of what’s going on in the world around us.
As you go about this season, let’s remember who Jesus is!

Greetings! How are you this month? I hope you are doing well. This month’s newsletter is a little different, as I want to let you know about a special day in January that you can prepare for, and also let you know how one of our Aglow Generations groups is reaching out to trafficked women.
National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – January 11, 2014
In 2007, the U.S. Senate designated January 11th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness of sex slavery, labor slavery, and other types of trafficking – worldwide. It is a day to bring global awareness of people who need freedom and rescue. I would like to encourage you to get involved in raising awareness by starting something in your community! Getting involved can be as elaborate as planning an all-day community event, to simply sitting with a few friends who are interested and will allow you to show them a 10 minute video testimony.
Here are a few simple resources to help you get started:
For teens you know and those who like magazines:
Pick up the December 16, 2013 U.S. edition of People Magazine. Yes, to aid in anti-trafficking awareness I’m encouraging you to pick up this week’s People. Buy the magazine. Bookmark page 80. Then give it to a teen, neighbor, or friend who likes the magazine. Page 80 is an article called “Selling the Girl Next Door,” which tells of two American girls – both age 14 – who are survivors of trafficking. It’s an excellent article, and I recommend that everyone read it.
For those on Facebook:
Share the Aglow anti-trafficking statistics video. It’s less than 2 minutes long, and gives a quick look at global trafficking.
For those that think of trafficking as something that only happens overseas:
Show them this excellent video testimony of a beautiful young woman who was coerced into a sex trafficking, and trapped until God rescued her. The story is 12 minutes long, and you can show it right from your phone, or share this video on Facebook and Twitter!
For those who like movies:
Two different movies I would recommend are the Nefarious documentary and the fictional movie “Not Today”. Nefarious is a documentary, and can be subtitled in 20 + different languages. It gives insight into trafficking in many regions of the world. “Not Today” is a story format, rather than a documentary, and looks at trafficking in India. Either of these movies would be a great tool to bring awareness of trafficking, and can act as a springboard for prayer, discussion, and ways to get more involved.
For your friend who isn’t interested at all:
Ask them to put the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline number into their cell phones: 888-373-7888. Why? So in case they ever see anything suspicious, they can call the hotline, or give the hotline number to anyone who might need it.
Resource - Anti-trafficking poem/story shown at the Global Conference in Orlando, FL:
Here is a short video describing Aglow International’s current action steps in anti-trafficking, and followed by a dramatic story of a trafficked girl in Greece. This is based on a true story, and was recorded at the Aglow Global Conference in Orlando, FL. Pray! Pray! Pray! A care and concern for those trapped in modern day slavery is a concern that crosses all sorts of barriers. Pray that people’s hearts will be softened and opened to the reality of what is going on, and continue to pray for creative ways that you can get involved, in a hands-on way.

Merry Christmas, Jesus Loves You!
Stacey Rice leads a Generations Group in Bryan, Texas. At their Generations Christmas party this year, this group stuffed 90 gift bags to be given to Christine Ege and Boundless Mercy, for outreach. Generations group member Celeste explains, “A lady donated enough perfumes and lotions for all the bags, and then wrote individual cards for each bag encouraging the women in the brothels. It was a very great way to give back to the community for the Christmas holidays!!!” Here are pictures of the girls putting together the gift bags at the Generations Christmas party:
Thank you for continuing to pray for trafficking victims and the organizations working to rescue men, women and children from those conditions.

God With Us
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23
During this time of year I love hearing Christmas carols, because everywhere you go - even walking through the mall - you can hear of the "Wonders of His Love" and of the glory of Emmanuel, "God With Us".
This year I'm struck with the presence of God.
As I open Christmas presents,
I wonder at the God who is present.
He never leaves us or forsakes us,
So we celebrate Him this Christmas.
May you be reminded this season,
Of the God who loves you beyond reason.
Merry Christmas, may your soul be well,
As you reflect on, think of, and worship Emmanuel

Rescue Freedom
Thank you for continuing to pray for trafficking victims and for Rescue Freedom International as they continue to rescue, restore, and empower those caught in slavery.
This month pray:
- Pray for progress in the new purchase of property in India! Pray for God’s favor to be clear and evident as they are settling into the property.
- Pray for the brand new scholarship program they are launching, that the transition will be smooth and that this student will do well in her studies.

Philippines Update
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6
Prayer breaks chains and gives favor that is supernatural. It enables rescue and puts people in the right place at the right time.
I want to update you on Aglow’s activity in the Philippines since my November 12th letter. Thank you to all who have donated to Aglow’s Disaster Relief fund for that region. We have received over $25,000 to bring aid to the Philippines!
Tessie, our Aglow National President of the Philippines, has gathered with Aglow leaders and church leaders to purchase and pack large amounts of rice, toiletries, and medications. Below are a few pictures of the group assembling packages, as well as handing them out. Tessie reports that something wonderful is happening throughout the Philippines in Aglow. Because of the Transformation trips to many places in the Philippines, Aglow has a wonderful name among the people. Men are walking strongly alongside Aglow now, and a vibrant Generations group is growing up. What an incredible blessing – to know our Transformations trips were taken in part for such a time as this.
Here is what Tessie and the team have been up to:
Bohol
- They visited Bohol where they were able to visit many villages. Bohol was the #1 tourist island in the Philippines. Now all the hotels, resorts, and malls are in shambles from the recent earthquake, and then the typhoon.
- When the typhoon hit it was 8AM and it was a holiday, so children were not in school. This saved many lives.
- Now Bohol is being called “Sink Hole Island”.
Disaster aid
- They had more volunteers than they could use. Everyone wants to help.
- The team has been in Leyte and Tacloban. They will cross two oceans (by ferry) to reach the affected areas. Tessie said, “Please surround us with prayers as many roads are blocked, and people are desperately waiting on the streets others do hold up those coming with supplies.”
- 12 people are traveling to hand out supplies – 9 men and 3 women. There are also men on the ground in the areas where they are going who are making advance preparations for the distribution. She asked for prayer for safety for them all.
- They are taking 2 trucks. They are riding in one of them, and supplies are in the other. Since there are no hotels or places to stay they are camping out just like the people they are coming to help, so they have brought their own supplies – tents to sleep in, food and cooking utensils.
Future plans
- After this first major trip they will take aid to several other islands.
- They also plan to take aid to the evacuation centers in Cebu.

Ministry to the people
- Tessie said they are sharing the messages that were spoken at our conference in Orlando. These messages are bringing life and hope to the people.
- She is preaching…in every negative situation there is a positive…Isaiah 61 “instead of”… These powerful words are strengthening the body there.
- We have let Tessie know we are praying for them all. She said she feels the peace, assurance, power of our prayers. Transformation is happening.
In the midst of this great disaster, and the threat of trafficking that we continue to pray about, I am so blessed to be reminded of God’s provision and what He had set in place in advance. On a personal note, in addition to Tessie and the team providing disaster relief in the Philippines, a friend of mine, Renee St. Jacques, was in the Philippines for two weeks at a safe house ministering to young formerly trafficked girls who are being healed, restored, and set free. Renee was working on a dissertation involving dance as healing for trafficking victims. Please pray for the girls she ministered to. Many testimonies came out of that time, including breakthroughs like these, "I realized that I can also express my prayers in a dance." And, "I felt God's forgiveness as I was dancing."
Thank you so much for praying. Thank you for giving. God is doing great things, and we are so blessed and humbled at the support we have received and are able to give to the Philippines. Thank you for continuing to pray for Tessie and the team (including for safety and wisdom in supply distribution) and also for Renee as she ministers through dance at the shelter.
Blessings to you all!
