Aglow Pelotas

Aglow began to impact lives in Pelotas, Brazil, through an Aglow Transformation Team outreach.  The team began by teaching quilting and jewelry courses in the Cohab Tablada community.  Springing from that event, several more courses were taught in various places, beginning the blossoming of Aglow in this region of Brazil. Pelotas is the third most populous municipality in the nation, located in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.  Since they speak Spanish, Aglow Pelotas relates to the Aglow Uruguay national leadership.

Nely de Bottino, Aglow Uruguay National President, recently sent a report summarizing the activities of Aglow Pelotas from their inception in 2013 until today.

Pelotas Beginnings

In July of 2013 an Aglow Transformations team taught patchwork quilting and jewelry courses to 32 women in the Cohab Tablada community.  Springing from that event, several more courses were taught in various places throughout the year, beginning the blossoming of Aglow in this region of Brazil.

Working under the direction of Nely de Bottino, the Aglow Pelotas Board of Directors was trained and established.

In December of 2013 Aglow Pelotas put on a “Festival of Nations” event in a local church touching 120 people.

2014 Activities

35 women attended the first Aglow Pelotas public meeting, held in January of 2014.

In March of 2014 the group held a Woman’s Day March dinner reaching 40 women.  Then in May they held a Mother’s Day breakfast at which 45 women attended.

An Aglow Pelotas Generations group was formed in 2014.  The group is active with social gatherings, camping, picnics and dance groups.  Each meeting brings together around 35 young people of different ages.  Nely reported, “Almost all of the neighborhood boys are attending the Generations Group participating in the activities.”

In August and again in September, Aglow Pelotas and the Aglow Pelotas Generations groups visited a homeless shelter.  Each time they provided snacks, prayed, and sang together with the residents.

In October Claudia Goulart, Aglow Brazil Vice President of Leadership, presented a 4 week course.  The topics were presented in such a way that they were relevant to women’s lives whether they were, married, single, young or seniors.  A psychologist was among the attendees and reported that she learned a lot from the sessions. 45 women attended.

In November, 90 people attended an Aglow Pelotas retreat.

The group met weekly throughout the year in the Tablada community offering various classes including handicrafts and gymnastics.
