Director of European English Aglow, Carolyn Jones-van Heezik shares about their recent Watchmen on the Wall event held via Zoom – Here is the story.
Extraordinary times can give extraordinary opportunities, so it proved for the Watchmen on the Wall course that the European English Aglow was able to hold from February through March of this year. In the midst of varying lockdowns and restrictions, 12 participants joined the 5-session course via Zoom, logging in from Norway to Spain.
“This has been an eye-opener!” was the exclamation on more than one occasion. “I am feeling so much more equipped and energized to be a Watchman for Israel. I need to have answers for when I meet people who don’t understand about the Jews and Israel.”
For others it was a deepening: ´ I knew that God had led me to join this course. After a lifelong love of the Jewish people and studying their scriptures and their land, among other things, it was during Lockdown that God spoke to me very clearly from Habakkuk 2 “I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, for the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.
Though it lingers, wait for it; it will certainly come.” Stay alert. Watch and pray.” “The spiritual aspect of this difficult matter was highlighted all the time. I got new and deeper insight into many questions and I hope that I can be a better, committed watchman for God. I also liked the conclusion that we have to depend all the time on God's grace, no matter how well-informed we would be.”
The manual was also greatly appreciated as a resource, especially how it combines scripture with insights into the history of the Jewish people and modern Israel. The course makes us realize there is so much more and, so more than ever, the participants long to visit Israel – preferably with Aglow, to complete the eye-opening journey that started virtually on Zoom, and become fully-fledged Watchmen on the Wall.
