“2016 was challenging, yet productive. Despite many setbacks we finished the year strong,” writes Zameka Sijadu, Aglow South Africa National Committee President.

Lighthouse Outreaches

  • Gugulethu Lighthouse (Cape Town) has a strong outreach program for youth. During Youth Month in June, they conducted a Human Trafficking Awareness program working with PACHT (People Against Child and Human Trafficking). The event included films, plays, storytelling and testimonies from those who had escaped out of child trafficking.
  • Durban Lighthouse also has a strong youth ministry focusing on making an impact in the lives of abandoned children. They are working in partnership with a children’s home in Durban ministering to the spiritual and physical needs of these young boys and girls. One of the girls who was raised up in the home recently ministered in an Aglow meeting, sharing her testimony of how God used Aglow in her life to bring her to where she is today.
  • Pretoria Lighthouse in Gauteng is also thriving. They finished the year with a High Tea outreach. Sister Joyce, the president, has a passion for reaching out to ladies. Fourways Candlelight is also continuing in Gauteng.

Annual Retreats

  • In October the Eastern Cape Area Board held their annual retreat. About 60 Aglow ladies from various Aglow Lighthouses in the Eastern Cape came together. The theme of the conference was “Spiritual barrenness”  from Isaiah 54:1. A mighty move of God was witnessed in the gathering.
  • One week later the Western Cape Area Board held their Annual Retreat. The theme was “Arise” taken from Isaiah 60:1. Everyone left the retreat declaring, “We shall arise!”
