The Greater Purpose

Last evening a President was elected to another term of office in the United States.

It was a measured victory with half of the nation voting for the other candidate.  Such a divided vote speaks to the reality that we are a nation divided on many issues, serious issues that continue to profoundly change America.  We have seen historically what occurs when a nation continually turns from the principles of God’s Word to walk in its own ways.

As you might imagine, there are many voters who are concerned with the outcome of this election.

While I am certain that we as believers must continue to make our prayers heard in the gates of our respective nations, I also want to remind us of our true purpose.

When Pilate questioned Jesus about being “King of the Jews,” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world!”  Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?  Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king.  For this cause I was born and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.  Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

Jesus knew who He was.  His identity was secure.  His purpose was focused.  He could not be turned aside by people’s opinion of Him or the questions they asked.  He never once waivered in the purpose He had come for, which was to demonstrate the realities of another kingdom.  That kingdom was vastly different than the world around Him.  He had come to establish a new mindset, a new culture, and a new way.  We, as the followers of Jesus, have been sent into the world to continue what Jesus began.

Think of Pilate's response when he said to Jesus, “Do You not know that I have power to crucify You?”  In essence, Pilate was saying that he had the power to destroy Jesus and all that He had come to do in the earth!

The bold answer of Jesus captured the totality of the situation….even as it does ours.  “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.”

Jesus knew that there was a greater purpose He had been sent to accomplish.  While things around Him swirled in opposition to that purpose, He walked in total confidence that God, His Father was in control and would not allow any deviation from the plan.

Nothing has changed!  We, too, walk in the knowledge that God’s plan is marching on.  We are the people of another kingdom.  We have joined ourselves to Him in that purpose, as we move on with Him.

The hour is more critical than we know and our prayers and worship more vital than we perhaps see.  It is the time of our arising.  It has been spoken over Aglow and we have stepped into a new place in our identity and purpose.

Do not be moved by what you see and hear.  Keep your eye single and you will be filled with the light of His revelation as we walk forward together, male and female…taking dominion.

Very well written. It was upsetting for me last night to watch the elections. I had to battle my fear of what would happen if President Obama got re-elected. I eventually turned it off. Quickly turned it on before I went to bed at midnight and then turned it on first thing this morning ... much to my dismay. As I sat with the Lord asking Him what happened, I felt He was showing me that we now are like the Jews back in the Roman times wanting a King to come and save them from the tyranny of the Roman Empire. The disciples had hoped that would be Jesus. The Jews had their eyes on a man ... just like we as a Nation do now. I remember when Bill Clinton got re-elected for a second term. It again was distressing for me. But the Lord said to me "Do you not understand that with the snap of my finger I can bring anyone to their knees and direct their heart back to me?" It gave me peace and guidance to know that we need to be on our knees praying for this Nation but keeping our eyes of His Kingdom.

God's blessings upon you.

A note especially to my dear Aglow Americans living in America:

I took the call to extended prayer and fasting for my nation very seriously, even though I am an American currently living in a different country. This was the first presidential election that I did not simply go with my “party” but really sought the Lord and looked lovingly at both candidates for God’s heart.

This was my hardest vote, I almost couldn’t even do it, but in desperate pleading with the Lord for an answer before my absentee ballot time expired, He gave me one: “Grace versus Law.”

While I was touched by some biblical truths of one candidate (e.g unborn life IS precious, marriage IS between a man and woman), I was also touched by the Christ-like values of another (for example, helping eachother, especially those in need, even if this means giving up something that is ours (e.g. Acts 2: 44, 45…).
I love God’s Word, I love Jesus, and I, like you too, am waiting for His return, but for me, Grace versus the Law is how God showed me how I could vote for a candidate who on the surface does not hold to some basic bible truths.

Grace is what told the Pharisees who found the woman in adultery-who by law should have been stoned- to leave her alone and whoever had no sin could throw first.
Grace healed on the Sabbath, when the law demanded that no “work” be done on a Sabbath.
Grace let the hands of hungry men eat without washing, when that was an act said to defile them.

I pray that my fellow Aglow brethren, particularly those deeply grieved by the election result, can still see and even be thankful to the Lord for what has happened. Let us please pray fervently that evil influences don’t get a bigger foot or strong hold in our nation these next 4 years. Let’s pray for real revival and awakening in the heart of the President-- The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes. (Prov. 21:1). And let us remember the other honorable candidate in our prayers, that he and his family may have a full revelation of who God the Father and Jesus is.

Lord God Almighty, do above more than we can ask or imagine! (Eph 3:20)

Let us please be united and one, despite our differences in views, opinions or parties, in Christ Jesus, with His love for each other and the world, that the world may indeed see and know who He is (John 17: 20-23).

I had been so hoping for a very different outcome to the election. I had prayed for great mercies for America and indeed the world. What happened was very sobering. I perceived the Lord making a very clear statement about just how far America has stepped over the line where His patience is concerned. I think he is going to continue to manifest His power with even greater judgements upon this land I love. Let us pray that we the Church will not disappoint our great Redeemer. May we go forth on our knees in prayer to the fields that are white, waiting for a great harvest.

Thank you, Jane. Yes! Moving forward with God's design for us is far greater than an election result. God was not surprised nor caught off guard by the votes of Americans. He is steady on His course, and we are with Him, in Him.

Thanks Jane and everyone else for sharing your thoughts and insights. I and many others I know were so very diappointed by the election. I realize God is in control and there is a reason for all that He does. I also know that as His children He works everything out for our good. Having said that, I do question if prehaps He allowed the people to have their desire and now leaness will come upon this nation just as it did the old testatment Jews when they made wrong choices. We must continue to pray for our nation and our leaders, but most of all that God's people will seek His face and follow His leading.

How different our country is today then when I was young, married and having children. I was deeply sadden with the low participation in voting yesterday. It was reported that they was less turnout than for the 2008 election! I believe it would have been a different result if every eligible Christian voted for Bible morality. I can't believe that people didn't realize the importance of this election. Our nation has really changed into what has crumbled most nations, voting into power those who will give back the most. We almost have more "takers" in this country than "givers".

Whoever is in the presidential spot, Jesus is King. There are many Christians who are happy with the outcome of the election for different reasons, as many different reasons as people of faith can be different. Quite frankly, I don't think God is particularly interested in our politics, but in the condition of our hearts toward Him. A people turned toward God will make decisions based on His heart, not on the laws of the land, i.e., Daniel in Babylon. Neither candidate stood as a single-issue candidate, both were complex and neither particularly according to scripture. I think both choices were less than optimal if we're looking for one of them to be Jesus to us. I think both sides have issues not in keeping with loving one another as God would have us love one another. Neither candidate is a savior. Only Jesus is our Savior. Pray for those in authority. Many hearts need to be changed on both sides.

For Gay marriages. for tax funded on demand abortions, for socialism (which is not the American dream!). for spending beyond reason and already cutting back some drugs on Medicare through a Health Care program laced with evil intentions) WAKE UP! Many hearts need to be changed on both sides.) I agree. It has been said if each believer would pray one minute a day united for the same purpose combined it would send the heavens some great number of minutes/hours a day - I don't remember the number but it was astounding. Moving forward I pray we continue to pound the heavens for the leaders of our nation to have changed hearts as we Light the Dark.

I to was troubled at the results of the election. I turned to the Lord and He gave me His peace. I called a friend, who told me she was not taking calls. We went to prayer. At the end of our prayer time, He gave us the song, "Shine Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father;s glory, flow Spirit flow set our hearts on fire...I had to ask myself, would I want the man I chose for president in office or a great revival. It would be for revival and the Lord to show Himself strong in the earth and that many would come to know Him.
Before the election, I saw a house of cards {our Presidents} falling. I thought it meant He would lose the election. I now think it is a now word and things are coming down. I am praying that our President will do what Daniel commanded Nebuchadnezzar to do, ..He admonished him to to acknowledge that Heaven rules. It is time for us to become the Esthers, Daniels, and Nehemiahs. The Kingdom is near and the fields are white unto harvest. Let us gird up our loins and strengthen the hands that hang down. Our God reigns!!!!
