Rest From Our Enemies
Once again, we have turned the page of the calendar and entered another year. It is hard to believe that 2014 has become something of the past and we have stepped into another year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
2015, WE WELCOME YOU!
As is my custom, I listen to hear if the Holy Spirit has something to say to me about the New Year. This is what I’ve heard for 2015.
NUMBER 15 STANDS FOR REST
The number 15 stands for rest….a rest which is the result of His deliverance and salvation. It is a rest resulting in the complete work of Jesus done on our behalf.
ISRAEL IS TOLD TO REST
Three times in the year, Israel rested on the 15th day of the month.
The first time was on Passover.
“On the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of the unleavened bread to the Lord; Seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day (15th) you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.” Lev 23:6-7
The second time was Feast of tabernacles.
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, “The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the Lord. On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it.” Lev. 23: 33-35
In both instances their rest had to do with their “work.”
The third time is found in the Book of Esther. Interestingly, this time their rest had to do with their “enemies.”
“Mordecai sent letters to the Jews that were in the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, to establish this among them that they should keep the 14th and 15th day of the month Adar yearly, as the days when the Jews rested from their enemies, as the month which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor.” Es 9:20-22
REST RELATED TO WORK
We usually think of rest as something we need related to:
- Our workload
- A heavy schedule
- A hectic lifestyle
- Pressure points in our life
REST FROM OUR ENEMIES
But, what if the more important point is to have, REST FROM OUR ENEMIES!
Think of the things that hinder us, hurt us, hold us back, and keep us from walking forward. Things like beliefs, perceptions, fears, and anxieties. “Stuff” we hold within ourselves. Mindsets we hold to be true about ourselves…or perhaps mindsets of hopelessness about broken relationships or judgments we hold against other people. What about negative patterns of living and thinking that work against us? WHAT IF IT IS THIS KIND OF THING THAT WE REALLY NEED REST FROM?
Remember the story that unfolded in the Book of Esther? There had been a destructive plot planned against the Jewish people. Mordecai, Esther’s uncle sent a message to Queen Esther.
“Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Es 4:13-14
He was in essence saying to her, “There is something in you that is for this hour and for this situation. It is time for you to arise and to speak it out.”
Esther’s response was, “I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”
She found favor with the king and he extended his scepter to her, telling her to make her request, to speak out her petition. As Esther spoke out, the plot of the enemy was exposed! Haman was hanged on the very gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. (Es 7:10)
THE HOUSE OF HAMAN
“On THAT DAY King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews.” Es 8:1
Just think of it….on the very same day that the enemy was exposed, the “house of the enemy” was given to Esther.
THE ENEMY’S HOUSE
We have been given the house of our enemy, as well! And God intends that we live in the rest He has accomplished for us through His Son Jesus….IT IS A PLACE OF REST FROM OUR ENEMIES.
It is the place of rest from any inner enemy whose plot it is to keep us from living in abundance and victory. It is the place of rest from turmoil, fear, conflict, or other places of self-destruction. It is the time to break captivity of any form.
PROCLAMATION IS THE KEY
“In the Spirit we must talk our way into everything. What we believe, must be spoken aloud into the atmosphere of our circumstances. We speak from the inner man of the spirit into the outer world of our life situation. Faith comes by hearing and confession; declaration, and proclamation are vital in the ongoing battle to govern in our circumstances.
Continuous proclamation opens us up to the upgrade the Father has designed for us. In declaration we master how to stand in opposition to the enemy. In proclamation we embrace the identity and the resources that come to us through the Lord Jesus.” Graham Cooke
I believe that 2015 is a year when we are to walk in the fullness of our deliverance and salvation and in the place of rest from anything that has hindered or harassed us. We have been given full authority over our enemy, just as Esther was given full authority. She reversed the decree of destruction the enemy issued over her people, the Jews.
It is time for us to square our shoulders, cast off negative thoughts, and gain rest from the enemy in every area of our lives.
What decree do YOU need to write against your enemy to reverse his strategies and proclaim the liberty and abundance that is part of your identity in Christ?
