Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Have you ever noticed that along with the beauty of the Christmas Season, with wonderful music, lovely decorations, and a sense of joy and expectation, feelings of sadness can surface as well?
This time of year can make difficult things seem particularly heightened. Tender places in our hearts seem even more tender. Places where we have pressed into God and waited long for answers, yet the expected breakthrough seems out of reach. Even though we are learning to abide in His Presence, times of sadness can sweep over us in the midst of challenging circumstances. We are real people, who face real life issues that are not always easy. It isn’t that we lack faith; rather, it is the length of the journey while waiting expectantly for the response of heaven.
Last night, as I listened to the Sounds of Christmas sung by a great choir, the strains of a familiar carol touched my heart. Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Glory to the newborn King! This great anthem of praise resounds with the triumph of the skies.Yet, there is a line I would draw your attention to in the second verse:
Late in time behold him come.
When you think of the birth of Jesus, it could appear His arrival came too late. Yet He came at the exact hour, indeed, the appointed time of the Father, to unlock that Divine intention in the heart of God: to redeem all that was lost and to give us life.
When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son.
Born of a woman, born under the law,
To redeem those who were under the law,
That we might receive the adoption as sons. Gal 4:4-6
While I don’t presume to understand the things in our lives that beckon a quicker answer, I can quiet my heart and find that place of peace that only Jesus can bring. When I consider that it may seem to us to be Late in time, I know that He holds every piece of our hearts in His hand and we will yet say, Behold Him come!
Our lives are a testimony of the triumph of the skies! Every part of our lives, every difficult place is an opportunity for triumph. We lift our voices in the midst of it all declaring who He is and who He is for us!
Hail the heaven born Prince of Peace,
Hail the Son of Righteousness.
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings,
Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth
Hark the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King!
We are learning about the fullness that He came to bring.
We are stepping into that fullness.
Every circumstance in our life must align with that fullness.
In every situation, we are attracted to His fullness… not fear, intimidation, negativity or hopelessness. Rather, we are gripped by all that Jesus is for us.
Astonishment is a way of life for us.
Let this Christmas season be a powerful time of entering into a new place with Him.
