Glad Tidings Of Great Joy
Can you believe that Christmas Day is less than a month away!
This is the time of year when we get out the Christmas decorations that have been stored away since the last holiday season. Many memories flood our mind as we look at things that remind us of Christmases past. Treasured, special times we have had with family and friends.
What a joyous time of year this is. The air is filled with preparation, expectation, and excitement as we move towards the day when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
There is also another kind of expectation and preparation that is taking place as we anticipate the second coming of Jesus. It is the preparation of the inner person; the heart and mind. We are experiencing the unfolding of our personal story in ways that bring fullness of joy; more joy than we’ve ever known. We are experiencing the coming of Jesus anew in our hearts and all that He came to do in us and through us as we learn to abide in the life He came to give us. What a gift!
We are learning to abide in Christ...learning to abide in the new nature that has been given to us. We are being re-programmed by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives so that we no longer function out of the old nature. We are learning to live in the new nature Jesus came to give us. It is life with a new center, a new focus and new mindsets.
The curse of living in negative ways, thoughts, and reactions has been broken by sacrifice. Jesus took all negativity. It was laid on Him at Calvary. He bore it in His own body so we could be free. He took all of our afflictions - mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
The enemy comes to attack us, to occupy our attention, to bring fear, worry, and all the “what if’s.” His purpose is always to bring us low. He comes to intimidate, but we are turning his intimidation to courage, peace, great joy and awe.
Remember the words of the angel of the Lord as He spoke to the shepherds following the birth of Jesus. "Behold, I bring you good tiding of great joy which will be to all people."
In the words of the traditional French Carol, "Angels We Have Heard on High," this oft sung phrase takes on new meaning.
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?
Gloria in excelsis Deo;
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Jesus came to make all things new.
He came to bring us glad tidings of great joy.
As we make preparations for this Christmas, seek quiet spaces to hear His voice each day. Let your heart continually be turned towards Him and the joy He came to give you.
