Vision and Revelation from Jane Hansen Hoyt

Expect the Impossible

Pregnant WomanLet me tell you about someone who received an unexpected gift after years of disappointment, of hoping, waiting, and perhaps times of giving up. I am talking about a story that unfolds in Luke 1. It is the story of Zacharias and Elizabeth.

Zacharias and Elizabeth were both righteous people. They both walked in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord…blameless! Yet, they had no child! Elizabeth was barren and now they were both well advanced in years!

"Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John." Colorful lights that glisten, festive decorations that bring warmth and cheer, and the glorious sounds of “Joy to the World” fill the air as our attention is again turned to the birth of Jesus. The entire season brings a smile to our face, and a sense of happiness and expectation as we gather for times with friends and family. It is a time of sharing love and giving gifts.

An Unexpected Gift

Let me tell you about someone who received an unexpected gift after years of disappointment, of hoping, waiting, and perhaps times of giving up.

This appears to be a story with a period at the end of the sentence. How could life change the obvious facts as stated before us? They have passed the child bearing years.

In those days, the Jewish culture considered children to be a sign of God’s favor. Therefore, to be childless was considered to be a sign of His displeasure and a humiliating situation. It was the dream of every woman that she would bear children, particularly a son.

Because they were both righteous and walked in all the commandments of the Lord in a blameless way, sin did not appear to be the problem. Their hearts were open and right before the Lord. Yet, their prayer for a child went unanswered and seemingly unacknowledged. They had no child.

They had prayed, believed, hoped, and waited, but still no baby…and now, the inability of advanced years.

There comes a point in life, where you might think to yourself, I guess what I have been hoping for is never going to be and your heart hurts. It is something you have talked to God about. Yet, the answer to your prayer seems delayed…delayed for so many years that there is a quiet kind of giving up on the inside.

An Unexpected Response

While Zacharias was going about his service in the temple, he caught something out of the corner of his eye. It was an angel standing before him on the right side of the altar. Zacharias was startled and fear fell upon him.

As the angel began to speak he gave an announcement that must have seemed ludicrous to this old man. “Do not be afraid, for your prayer is heard.” I would be thinking, now which prayer is that? What exactly are you referring to? I have prayed many prayers throughout my long lifetime. I am on old man. Are you referring to a specific prayer that had some “weight of importance” upon it?

The angel went on. “Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness and many will rejoice at his birth. He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Our Prayer Has Been Heard

While there is more to this story, I want to stop here to encourage you; your prayer has been heard. Perhaps you are one who has thought to yourself, I guess what I have prayed for is never going to happen. That place of hope, dreams, and expectation you have wanted to see fulfilled isn’t going to come to pass.

Nothing, Nothing, Nothing....Is Impossible With God!

As surely as God stepped into the lives of Zacharias and Elizabeth in such an unexpected way, He can step into your life, as well. He can bring forth life out of apparent barrenness, and abundance out of emptiness. “For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of Hosts is His name.” Isaiah 54. He is not an impotent husband, but a giver of life and hope. He is the very source of life to every one of us.

The Year 2017

As we move toward 2017, and as we all continue serving God, we need to be expectant of incredible miracles. He wants to invade our lives, our world. He wants to do the unexpected. He wants to reveal His majesty. He wants to heal cancer, arthritis, diabetes and other various kinds of diseases. He will do the impossible in the world’s eyes.

He wants to open up our mind and our spirit to receive greater revelation from Him, so we know how to live and glorify Him in this hour.

The Holy Spirit is coming with a new outpouring of Heaven that will fill everything with life!

He is changing water into wine and He has saved the best for last.

He wants to blanket us with His Presence in a new way.

Make Ready a People Prepared For The Lord

John the Baptist, the one Zacharias and Elizabeth gave birth to, was brought forth “to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Aglow, we have received the same purpose; to prepare people for the return of the Lord. What a holy calling. What an opportunity to be alert and aware of every indication of the Holy Spirit to speak, to pray, to engage with others who need Jesus.

Without the prayers and faith of Zacharias and Elizabeth, the world would not have had John the Baptist. Imagine!

What is the world waiting for through your prayers?
