Africa | Asia | Canada | Caribbean | Europe | Mexico/Central America/Panama | Middle_East | Pacific_Islands | South_America Cameroon - God has given Aglow Cameroon an incredible plan for reaching people with the gospel. Our leader, Pauline Forkwa, writes of the inspired design God has given her. “Cameroon has over two hundred languages and tribes. Each tribe has a traditional ruler who represents the entire village. Annually he calls the names of all the family heads in his tribe and pours libations invoking the ancestors to watch over his people. It is usually accompanied by traditional dances and animal sacrifices to the rivers and streams around. This holds the entire community in bondage and it is difficult to penetrate with the gospel. In 2005 as we were praying the Lord showed us how to penetrate through the children. “We come as a philanthropic group to the village head and tell the ruler and his councilors that we are children’s workers. We preach the gospel to children and identify those with special needs for assistance. Since they love the idea of assistance they always welcome us, so the chief rallies the whole village to come and listen to us. We use the opportunity to preach the gospel and eventually we carry out a children’s camp in that village where we lead the children to the Lord through games, songs, etc. for about 3 to 4 days depending on how much funds we are able to raise. We have already been to three villages and it is very fruitful. We formed an association for kids called Jonathan’s house and carried on with the experiment. l am very excited because with the new move of Aglow we will be able to plant Aglow chapters in many more villages through the children because at the end of the day the area is open to the gospel after each children’s camp.” Nigeria - Our leader, Olabisi Adeluyi writes, "The Annual Residential Prayer and Fasting Retreat of Aglow International Nigeria was held at the Jossy Royal Hotel, Jos, Plateau State from 5th to 7th February, 2009, immediately after the nationwide Aglow fasting and prayer from 4th January to 4th February, 2009. 101 leaders were in attendance. The theme was, 'Revive Thy Work O Lord.' It is also the theme for the year. Please pray for us. There is still tension in Jos. Thank God we held our retreat last week. It would have been very difficult to hold this week. Many testimonies were recorded. Let me share one of them with you. The Area President of NorthEast 4, Mrs. Lami Hassan, testified that she was booked for a surgery for the removal of fibroid. By the time she got to the hospital, the fibroid had disappeared- nowhere to be found. We praise God for this." Rwanda: Aglow Rwanda is committed to helping Rwandan women become role models of balanced women, as Christians, mothers, and also as wives. They also mobilize to help Rwandan women in rural areas to improve their social-economic lives as well as their spiritual ones. Their recent focus has been on the implementation of a project that was designed to improve the children’s hygiene at Gatore Branch by providing them with sandals, tooth brushes, tissues etc. This all was done in an effort to "tame the problem of hygiene from the grass root level." We arrived at 5 pm on the26th of June it took us 17 hours by train to do a journey of 442 kms then 4 hours for 170 kms by Bus. We were welcomed by the usual singing and dancing the Wedza style. It took a while to shake hands and hug more than 40 ladies who had arrived for the whole night service giving us sobbing time in with those who had lost their loved ones, their faces were glowing with love and happiness yet in my spirit it was hurting to see how some had lost weight and were looking frail, especially those I knew were on food supplement programs and A.R.V’s knowing that these are not always available these days. Some of these are our powerful leaders and those who have labored with us to keep the ministry of Aglow strong in this District. Everyone has been affected by the two years of political violence, which was severe in Wedza. We thank God that in Wedza, Aglow is still very strong, many have remained faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and kept Aglow ministry alive. Help for Wedza - We observed how these people are suffering after they had lost everything including their investments. We heard their sad stories on all what happened during the 2yrs when the money collapsed. They came up with many suggestions for rebuilding, though, such as handiwork, poultry, piggery, rearing etc. It was great to find out that nearly every woman was able to do something in her village as the Land is very fertile and full of water and the women are very, very hard working. Our next step after this report has been read by all members of the National Board and Area Boards is that we want to write small project proposals to source funds for co- operatives, and individual loans so as to raise funds to purchase materials and equipment needed for them to start working on the projects soon. I see a breakthrough for us though not under estimating the work load that goes with all that it takes to get them working. We serve a faithful God the (Baal Per-azim) I know that many of you where stirred by Aglow International President (C E.O) Jane Hansen Hoyt’s letter of June the 15th Rename Your Strongholds so let us Rename all our Strongholds. Eggrinah KaliyatiAglow Zimbabwe National PresidentSecretary Africa CommitteeKenya: Our leader Lois Magua writes, ”It is true we have been going through a very difficult time here in Kenya, however, Aglow is still alive and well. Some chapters are still doing very well in spite of the violence and hardships. The Eldoret chapter -has not been able to regroup since the tribal clashes of last year but a few have been meeting for prayer. They were the hardest hit together with Mombasa. The Busia chapter- many relocated to other areas, some to Uganda. The Kilgoris chapter is doing well. The chair lady from the Narok chapter died in January, but a few have been meeting for prayer. This is one of those areas that was badly hit during the clashes. Five members of the Nakuru chapter have been meeting for prayers. The secretary who is diabetic almost had her foot amputated earlier this year, but God spared her. She is now well however her son has been admitted for suicidal poisoning. The Mombasa chapter was also very badly affected during the clashes. Just a few ladies are meet for prayer. A new chapter in Ongata Rongai was started a month ago. About 30 women in the Kinamba chapter meet monthly during school holidays. They also have a teen aglow attended by about 70 children. The Embu chapter is doing well and have initiated another lighthouse in a neighboring town called Mbeere. In the Nairegia Enkare chapter a few women meet for prayers. The area has been affected by famine but now this situation has improved. In the Njoro chapter 5-8 women meet for prayers. The Nyeri chapter has 3-8 women usually meet for prayers. The Kabete chapter has been doing well and they recently held their board elections. About 30-50 women meet regularly. In the Webuye chapter 8-11 women meet for the monthly meetings.” We honor the women in all these 14 towns for their faith and tenacity to continue the Aglow ministry for the women in their communities in the midst of difficult circumstances.
